CRY

In collaboration with CRY, the organization has established Aangawaadi Centres in the state of Jharkhand. There are total 19 Anganwadi centres operating in two panchayats, Katiya and Meerganj of the Project area. Since the establishment of these centers, the organization is dedicated towards providing supplementary nutrition for better nutritional and health status of children. Besides, Child Development and Pre-School Education are other core responsibilities of the organization.

During the recent past, the regular stay of 90 percent children in 14 centres has been ensured. The stay of children at the center which is 10% more than the previous year was possible due to the willingness of the Organization, Mata Samiti and the active participation of our staffs, Assessing children under Meri Patrika proved to be a good tool for Children’s stay.

The reorganization of the Mata Samiti was made active at all the 19 centers by conducting regular capacity building meetings regarding the work and responsibilities of the Samiti members. Parents also took interest and they have started sending their children to the center, which increased the attendance rate.

Skill Development Program

There are many skill development programs run by the organization to raise confidence, improve productivity and give direction to the children. We believe that the development of skills at the school level is very essential to channelize the children for proper opportunities. It also enriches their confidence.

Formation of Adolescent Group

We have formed and empowered Adolescent Group (Kishori Mandals) to provide a platform for girls to build their self-confidence. Various meetings of these peer group have been conducted to improve their rights, particularly surrounding the issues of Education and Child Rights like Child Labour, Early Marriage, Increased rate of dropouts, etc. Adolescents are encouraged to involve themselves in all these decisions. This initiative also builds general awareness among parents. We have also provided Life Skills training which includes Self Awareness, Interpersonal Relations, Communication, Problem Solving, Creativity, Critical Thinking, Decision Making, and Empathy, Coping with Stress, and Coping with Emotions.

Village Child Protection Committee

The Village Child Protection Committees (VCPC) is established for prevention, reporting, monitoring, protection and responding on the issues of Child Rights and Protection of children. The VCPC is formed by the participation of community members, children. Government functionaries and elected representatives comprises of PRI Members, Anganwadi Worker, Children Representatives, Representatives from NGOs, Parents, Management Committee, SHG Members etc. These VCPCs identify most vulnerabchildren and also encourage parents for protection of children. These committee members are involved in raising awareness in community to combat issues like child trafficking, child marriage, child labour and migration of children. They also sensitize parents to send their children regularly to school. During the last financial year, the organization conducted various meetings, trainings and campaigns to guide and motivate these committee members.

Stopping Child Marriage

Reducing child marriage is one of the key objectives of RJSS since its inception. The organization is defending child rights through monitoring, community mobilization and documentation. We work with families, communities and local organizations to reduce the prevalence and mitigate the harmful impacts of child marriage through educational workshops, advocacy, support programs and information sharing.

Organisation’s Achivements towards reducing child marriage

Child marriage rate in the project area which was 80% in 2012, reduced to 17% in 2018
Three villages i.e. Mananpur, Bhagalpur and Bhakhra is now 100% free from child marriage

Bal Sansad

Bal Sansad ( Children's Parliament ) is a platform which gives children the opportunity to voice their opinions and become key decision makers. We encourage children to take active participation in each and every decision. Students elected as delegates solicit input and suggestions from fellow students.

Strengthening of Parents Teachers Committee

We strengthen the Roles of Parents Teachers Committe for better Community Participation in Educational Development. In order to improve the educational status of children, we conduct regular meetings and discuss on various issues like early dropout of children, child s retention etc.
